Granite Basin is really just a high plateau enclosed on three sides by Comb Spur, Granite Pass, and Goat Mountain, and you can see here where it opens onto the vastness of Kings Canyon itself. The "lake" here is the last resting place of Granite Creek before it begins its long fall to the bottom of the valley.
