At the end of the rocky plateau, a wall of rock confronts the hiker, who starts to wonder when this elusive pass will reveal itself. I thought maybe that notch would be it, but no, it was another mile or so further along the trail. I was starting to feel the exertions of this long day and was anxious to set up camp and rest.
