This is what I found on the far side of the Bridge of Mystery. It's either a troll's lodge or a supply cabin for the back-country rangers out here. Using my shrewd sense of judgement and rudimentary reading abilities, I determined that this was the little-known "Simpson Meadown Ranger Station." At least, that's what the little sign said. I gather there are bear-proof storage sheds like this one scattered through the backcountry. From the CCC people I learned that some bear had recently gotten into one of these things somehow and vigorously defended it from invasion by a CCC crew cook who ventured in for supplies. It always pays to look first.
