When I finally sat down to take my boots off, I was really worried about what I'd find. If there was any serious damage to the skin or toenails, I didn't know what I'd do. I was greatly relieved, therefore, to discover my nails intact, though a bit discolored. I was disappointed, though, to see that the moleskin had completely slipped off. As it turned out, there was something wrong with the stuff, that it had almost no holding power, but I wouldn't figure that out until the next day.

Here, in camp, I was totally worn out. My longest day so far, but very enjoyable all the same. In the background you can see the highest part of the ridge separating this basin from the one I left behind. I remember treating myself to some instant almond paste (actually, a sweet, almond-flavored pudding type of stuff) after dinner, as reward for the effort. I'm so nice.
