Finally, almost 9.5 hours after hitting the trail, I arrived at Palisade lakes. One doesn't camp near the lake unless one feels like donating blood, so, in spite of my mangled mutts, I trudged my weary butt uphill from the trail a ways to a perfect little site overlooking the basin, next to a babbling brook and a pretty waterfall (the one in the picture). Near the top left corner of the picture you can just make out three people, about 500 ft downslope, filling up there water bottles from this very stream. I wonder if I should have waited a while before washing my socks?
