Well, there it is, Mather Pass. Everyone who passed me going the other way told tales of how grueling this pass was, coming from the other side. All agreed, however, that this side of the pass was quite gentle in comparison. As you can see, the route over this pass is totally exposed to the sun, as it has been for the last 2 miles, and I'm beginning to feel a bit toasted. After refilling my water bottles from this pond I found a shadey spot next to a boulder and wrote in my journal for a while.
